Hi,
I'm just posting a note to let you know about a CD called An Choill Draíochta. It is a relaxation CD with sound FX, narration in Irish and music of celtic influence all layered together - like a movie without image! The idea, is that it gets your imagination ticking, and encourages relaxation.
From developmental tests that have been run for several years before the CD's release, an added side effect with non-native language, is that we start understanding the story in the language we are studying, and the CD's format helps us engrain vocabulary from the particular story - An Choill Draíochta (The Enchanted Forest).
We are on the verge of having most if not all of the West Coast Universities, with Celtic studies departments, include An Choill Draíochta in their libraries as they are agreeing to the CD's benefit in helping with the Irish language.
For those of you interested, there are currently 2 locations online where you can find the CD.
The first site is completely as Gaeilge and is the European sales point :
choilldraiochta.ws/choill.asp
If you are genuinely interested in purchasing a copy, the USA sales location contains further information in English, and CD's for sale at:
www.ciaranhope.com/shop.html
I love the language, and think this CD is a fantastic way to have a pleasant and encouraging experience trying to freshen up ones vocabulary and knowledge of the Irish language.
We can all only wish we were fortunate enough to speak it every day:)
yours in music
Ciarán

Re: CD as Gaeilge that can help you with your Irish
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 12:35 PMthanks Cairan. My biggest problem with studying Irish is that I can't "hear" it in my head.
This might be a good way to associate the written word with the spoken word. -

Re: CD as Gaeilge that can help you with your Irish
Sat, August 20, 2005 - 11:10 PMForas na Gaeilge's site has some links to broadcasts in Irish which would absolutely help.
www.forasnagaeilge.ie/
Some other sites that gives you live links:
[TV]
TG4 (www.tg4.ie) is the Irish language broadcaster, showing many programmes that are a valuable resource for both adult and young learners.
RTÉ (www.rte.ie) broadcasts some programmes in Irish that are of a very high standard, including "An Nuacht", the daily news in Irish.
BBC (www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/irish/) also broadcasts in Irish.
[Radio]
Raidió na Gaeltachta (www.rte.ie/rnag/) is on-air twenty four hours a day.
Raidió na Life (homepages.iol.ie/~rnal/) broadcasts every day in Dublin.
BBC Radio Ulster (www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/irish/) also air Irish language programmes.
Hope this helps

Thu, November 16, 2006 - 4:46 PMHallo a Chiarán,
Was wondering, is the second Irish story-telling cd was coming out soon?

Re: CD as Gaeilge that can help you with your Irish
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 11:52 AMHey Ciarán,
Thanks for the links.
I was looking at the Raidió na Gaeltachta site (www.rte.ie/rnag/) - too bad their stream is real player specific.
Will poke around in forasnagaeilge some more.

Re: CD as Gaeilge that can help you with your Irish
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 7:25 AMI'm confused about the CD--is it in English or Irish? The sample on the U.S. purchase site is in English... -

Re: CD as Gaeilge that can help you with your Irish
Sat, February 3, 2007 - 5:32 PMThe CD is currently recorded in 3 languages(English, Irish, German) and recordings are in the works for spanish and swedish as well.
The CD's for sale on the US site are the English Language version "The Enchanted Forest" and the Irish language version - " An Choill Draiochta". You just select which language you want it in as you purchase. We didn't make a full Irish language US site as it generates so few hits. However, there is an Irish lanuage site in Ireland if that interests someone.

Re: CD as Gaeilge that can help you with your Irish
Sun, February 11, 2007 - 1:10 AMslight mistake. The US site's current update has the Irish language version off the sales option. I will inform everyone and get it up there again this week. In the meantime you can browse for it on the coilldraiochta.ws site.
